It may sound great. However, to succeed with your research paper, you need clear-cut, proven and effective steps. You should digest them first. Afterward, you need to implement them to turn in an excellent paper, right?
Luckily, we’ve got 10 highly effective tips for you. They’ll help you create a winning research paper without stressing yourself out on guessing what works and what doesn’t.
Make a Good First Impression
Considering that the introduction is the first thing your reader will be reading, you need to make it great. Start off with a gripping first couple sentences, your claim, and the reasons defending your claim. Don’t make it sound too smart and boring. Keep it simple. Always.
Use Academic Vocabulary
Replace simple words with stronger words. It will build character and strength throughout your paper. Use the thesaurus when you can’t come up with any on your own.
There are many free dictionaries out there on the web. Feel free to use them if you are in doubt what word will be a better choice.
Don’t Opinionate it, State it
Phrases like “I think” or “I believe this because” makes your paper have less substance and more places for your reader to question what you are claiming when it sounds like you are questioning yourself.
Replacing those phrases with “as seen in” or “for example when,” will make your evidence harder to argue against.
Every writer has a special writing voice. Do not try to change it in order to sound more pretentious or academic. As long as it follows the proper rules of grammar and has vocabulary words, there is no need to change the actual style you write in.
Why Do You Think That?
When you give an opinion you also have to tell the reader why you thought so. Give the reasons you came to that assumption or analysis.
Now, Prove It
Back up your reasons with proper textual evidence or research that defends your opinion. It is like having a lawyer, you want it to be fully prepared and have enough evidence to where the reader cannot dispute you.
Make It Easy to Follow Your Thoughts
Always use transitional words to assure your paper flows. Another tactic to use for transitioning is having the last sentence of the former paragraph lead into the first sentence of the latter sentence.
Your paper will be easier to read and make better connections if it flows. Make sure that you discussed the reasons mentioned in the introduction, throughout the body paragraphs, ending the paper with a conclusion that wraps up your ideas.
Your conclusion is a wrap up of everything you have already mentioned plus a new thought that is supposed to add a punch to the essay.
This should take about a quarter of your entire essay writing process. Revise and revise!
You can never do enough of it.
